Walking and Cycling

Walking

The quiet lanes and forest tracks are perfect for a walking holiday. Just step out of the door and you are on your way. There are several marked routes to follow and we keep a good stock of local maps for the area, plus details of recommended walks showing points of interest. The walk around Lac Pincemaille is a bird watcher’s paradise as it is one of the migration points for water fowl, with a nature trail area and bird hide looking over the protected part of the lake.

Cycling

Cycling — a great French pastime. France is one of the top destinations for cycling holidays and has invested in an excellent infrastructure of cycle ways. The Loire à Velo stretches 800 kilometres from St Nazaire to Budapest.

Whatever your pace, there is something for cyclists of all levels. We have bikes for your use, whether it is just to fetch the bread in the morning or something more energetic. A short cycle and back to laze by the pool, a little further and a visit to the chateau at Giseux or Lac Pincemaille or a good ride to Bourgueil through the forests and vineyards. There is something for all levels.

It is no wonder the French enjoy cycling when you can experience great food in local restaurants, fresh bread and croissants, wonderful cheeses from local markets and the only fuel cost is your own energy!

In the countryside not far from Les Mortiers is the prestigious Cyfac bike company. Internationally known, they have been victorious in Le Tour de France, Olympic Games, Il Giro d’Italia and many more famous races.

Le Tour de France

Le Tour de France passed very close to Les Mortiers in 2011, and again in 2013 when stage 12 finished in the nearby city of Tours.
